Let’s face it. We all want to be loved and accepted. So much so, for some of us, we spend most of our time morphing ourselves to become what others want or expect us to be. The problem is, the praises of people are flighty and temporary and at the end of the day can’t bring the peace we all so amply desire.
Living to please people is like watching a dog chase its own tail — frustrating. No matter how hard you try, you’ll just end up dizzy, tired, and confused. Why? Because people were never intended to supply you with the satisfaction that only comes from God.
When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. – Proverbs 16:7 KJV
What pleases God more than you getting into agreement with Him about who YOU are? We live in a very judgmental society, everywhere you look, something or somebody is trying to define you. We tend to focus on everything external and ignore the true gift of who you are on the inside. Yes, nobody’s perfect. Yes, we all have room to grow. Yes, you are no exception to either of these things, but when God made you, He made you valuable. He saw fit to allow you to be here on this Earth because You have something to contribute. The problem with people pleasing is this: while you spend your days trying to be like someone or something else, what you have to give lays dormant. This is the ultimate trick satan has used to neutralize the power that God placed on the inside of you.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: – I Peter 2:9 KJV
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to get into agreement with God concerning who you are and recognize your true value in Him. The more you understand how much you are loved, the easier it will be for you to make better decisions for yourself because you will realize that you have something worth protecting.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. – Psalms 139:14 KJV
Think about it, in order for Jesus to pay the enormous price He paid to save you, He had to believe that you were worth it, and He made that decision while you were yet still a mess. God has a purpose for you. You are not here by chance or accident. God doesn’t waste time or space and if He saw fit to allow you to be here in these critical times, you best believe that He’s got an amazing future available to you. You’re special and unique —- don’t give that up in the interest of becoming like everybody else. Stand strong and be TRUE. There’s no better you……than YOU.
