And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. – Galatians 6:9 KJV
A lot of us have a few “due seasons” coming our way! I think it’s so interesting that God would place this scripture in the Bible. It lets me know that He understands that it’s not easy to keep doing the right thing, especially when it seems like the benefits are few and far between. Let’s just be honest, standing in faith sometimes can be hard work. Life and the world has a way of making you tired. Clearly, God knows and understands that but notice He says: Don’t Quit! Don’t Quit! Don’t Quit!
So many people don’t get to experience their due seasons not because God didn’t come thru for them, but because they quit before time. Notice in Galatians that the due season is associated with an “if.” This promise of God is activated if you do your part = don’t quit, don’t stop, don’t give in, don’t lose hope! Satan has a part too and he plays it very well and that is to stop you anyway he can. He’s not powerful enough to take you down but crafty enough to throw storms to try and get you to lay your own self down. It’s interesting that even when Jesus was on the cross, He wasn’t there because satan over powered Him, but because Jesus chose to lay HIs life down. You have more power than satan — he cannot over power you unless you let Him!
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are you so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Mark 4:35-40
You know, as I have read this passage of scripture over the past several years, I’ve only focused on the way Jesus handled the storm, but recently I’ve noticed that there’s so much more to gain here. Jesus was on His path — doing good — and of course, satan showed up with a wind that couldn’t wipe Jesus out, but could have tempted Jesus to quit before He got to the other side. The other people who were with Jesus certainly gave up. Satan has no new tricks: he sees your value —- no wonder there are storms and drama trying to come up against you! Take it as a compliment! He is trying to stop you because there’s something great awaiting you on the other side —– DUE SEASON!
Instead of just focusing on the storms of life….ask yourself, “What is on the other side of this storm? What is so great that satan would do all of this to try and stop? What would I be missing out on if I jump ship now?” Jesus spoke to the storm and made it to the other side and you know what! GREAT THINGS HAPPENED: If you keep reading into Mark 5 you’ll see that as soon as Jesus hit the shore He was met by a man possessed with demons and He cast them out. The man went and publicized and testified of his freedom! Then if you keep reading in Mark 5 you’ll see that Jesus met Jairus and raised his daughter from the dead, and healed and restored the woman with the issue of blood who had been bound for 12 years — all of which would NOT have happened if Jesus gave up during the storm.
Next time you feel boggled down, discouraged and tempted to quit, ask yourself, “What is on the other side of this storm?” The answer is simple yet profound: GREAT THINGS! MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE! SO, DON’T QUIT NOW!
